VARIOUS STEEL STRUCTURES FOR VOPAK HAMBURG
Client: Jacobs Engineering Cologne

DESCRIPTION
As part of our search for new challenges and complex projects, we were recently awarded a highly complex project. The project was commissioned by Vopak Hamburg (Germany). This company is the world leader in the field of bulk liquid storage (oil products, chemicals, vegetable oils, liquid gases, etc.) with eighty terminals in thirty-one countries. The Vopak project is extremely multi-faceted, in particularly difficult-to-access areas in and around the water. Some elements need to be assembled using jetties or pontoons. Safety is also of major importance when working at tank terminals storing petrol, diesel and biofuels. Years of experience in the field of petrochemical safety are a definite advantage in this respect

SPECIFICATIONS
- The project involves erecting, treating and assembling pipe bridges, various steel frameworks, waterside escape stairways and four ship-mooring posts with a diameter of 1067 mm [42 in] and a length of 26.5 m [87 ft].
- Another facet involves constructing a steel framework complete with insulated sandwich panelling as part of the construction of an operator house.
- The mooring posts – each measuring 26.5 m [87 ft] long – have been fully assembled and welded ready for shipment to the terminal in Hamburg. There they will be positioned vertically into the water close to the terminal using high-frequency vibration pile driving techniques.
- The entire project comprises approximately 250 tons of hot-dip galvanized steel members.
